Kaldamar (Stuffed Cabbage)

Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 lb. ground pork
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 egg optional
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Steam outer leaves of a head of cabbage; one for each roll. Form meat into balls. Wrap in a cabbage leaf and fasten with a toothpick. Put in baking dish; baste often.

For a Christmas Smorgasbord
"Flo and I like a little condensed tomato soup and a little diced celery added to the meat. The pressure cooker recipe says to add 1 cup tomato soup and 1 cup water, pour over rolls. Set control at 10 and cook 8 minutes. This recipe sure calls for a lot of meat. I usually fix 1 pound, sometimes all beef or whatever proportions you wish."
