Grandma Rudeen’s Spicy Molasses Cookies

These are Alyssa’s most requested cookie. I remember watcing Grandma make these (and her sugar cookies) and she was always so calm and gentle, even when she cooked.
For chewy cookies use shortening (Crisco). For a crispier cookie, use butter or maybe half Crisco and half butter.

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspooncloves
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger

Instructions
 

  1. Mix shortening, brown sugar, eggs and molasses. Add sifted flour, soda, salt, cloves, cinnamon and ginger. Chill. Form into balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
