Whole Wheat Oat Rolls

These are moist and flavorful! You might want to double the recipe!

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 cup flour

Instructions
 

  1. Combine first 6 ingredients and pour boiling water over. Mix and let cool. While cooling dissolve yeast in warm water and add the 1 teaspoon of honey. Add egg to cooled batter then mix in dissolved yeast. Add flour until dough is just soft enough to knead lightly. Place in greased bowl. Cover with a damp cloth. Let rise until double (1 hour). Punch down. Make into 12 rolls. Put in greased 9 inch pan. Let rise again. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
