Grandma Rudeen’s Pepparkakor (Spice Cookies)

I first made this recipe for my wedding reception “smorgasbord”. I roll out the dough with a rolling pin and then use fun Christmas cookie cutters. However, Florence recently informed me that Grandma used the method above.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Karo syrup
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 3 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 3 teaspoons ginger
  • 3 teaspoons cloves

Instructions
 

  1. Cream together butter and sugar. Add syrup and egg. Add dry ingredients. Chill dough. Form dough into a log and slice thin. Bake at 350ยบ for 8 to 10 minutes.
